I did this because a trusted contact told me there might be security breaches, meaning that your Twitter preferences and history might get into nefarious hands.

Click on More >> Settings & Support >> Settings & Privacy >> Security & Account >> Security >> Two Factor Authentication (and select your preferred mode here). Here's a handy article from Twitter on how to do this.

A lot of people are flocking to Mastodon, an open source Twitter alternative. Whenever there's a new social media platform that everyone's talking about, I always like to grab my name on it, so I have a presence.
You should do that too, now. ⏰

Mastodon is a little different in that it's a decentralised network of servers meaning there is no one company running it. This has its advantages and disadvantages - more on that later.

For now though, if you are a card carrying member of #IrishTwitter, join Mastodon.ie - and see you over there!

Why You Should Not Ignore This

A lot of people hate change, especially when it comes to technology and favourite social networks. I get it that you may not use Twitter very often. But now really is the time to protect yourself and open your mind to doing things a little bit differently.

You may not think your Twitter activity has been particularly offensive. But consider how you might be perceived by some for tweeting your support of recent referenda in this country? (Ireland has had two successful referenda on abortion rights and same sex marriage in the last ten years).

When the global agenda changes, you might find yourself on the other side of the masses.

And that is scary.

I haven't got my head fully around Mastodon yet. And I really don't want to see my first love social media network Twitter get annihilated by the crackpots. But needs must. Or should be that Needs Musk? 😊

So what are you waiting for?
Stop what you're doing and take 5 mins to protect yourself.

And if you only have a Mastodon account and haven't yet used it, don't feel you have to pay for a service you haven't yet got.
