Painless hosting transfer
August 5, 2008 at 3:34 pm
Over the weekend this site changed hosts. From one Irish hosting company to another. I’ll miss the one I’ve been with because they’ve never let me down and they are such chirpy souls at the end of the phone - no matter how dumb the question I ask.
So why the move? You might ask.
I needed to upgrade wordpress, the old one was presenting dodgy RSS feeds, and adding unwanted notations to my posts, so the time had come. I needed a linux server, and preferably one that supports htaccess files. Seeing as Blacknight are the bloggers choice, I decided to move on over.
The whole thing happened quite smoothly. Doing it on a bank holiday weekend was a good idea. And having someone to help me made it much easier. Thanks to Gordon, who actually did the moving and installing. I looked after the nail biting and hoping nothing went wrong.
The only glitch was the fact that mac mail no longer lets me receive emails! It’s one of those bugs that could take a million days to work out. I am impressed with the level of interest paid to it by Blacknight support team. They’ve had 3 people on the case. In the end I’ve just decided to change email clients to Thunderbird. So far so good, my only complaint is the creepy icon of a dead bird draped over an envelope.

Glad to hear you finally found a solution of sorts to your mail problem. It’s a very odd one!
