Building for Builders
July 7, 2007 at 10:43 am
This week I’ve been very quiet on the blogging front because every available molecule of brain has been going on understanding 2 client’s businesses.
One of them is in the building industry – they do engineering, environmental impact statements, traffic studies, build bridges, roads, etc. My job is to make sure they come across in the best way possible; in order to do this I must understand their business, so it’s been a week of getting into the other side of my brain that I don’t use much!
The other client is BSS Software, we’re doing something very exciting for them in relation to their software line, ABA Sync. In order to do that, I must first understand the benefits of ABA Sync and what it means for a purchasing manager in a large construction company. So it was a morning spent considering vendor pricing on concrete blocks; marvelling at the way it simplifys on-hire and off-hire days for cranes, for example. And getting into the whole sub contractor pricing system.
And I thought that builders just knocked a few bricks together, drank cups of tea, and put in some nice windows?
I tell you, it’s a whole other world out there. It was a good exercise though because it pushed me outside of my comfort zone. I will try and remember how unsurefooted I felt when I’m next talking to someone who needs to get a website and feels pushed out of their comfort zone.
